‘I operated upon Phoolan Devi, why can’t I treat Tinoo’

Doctor who treated sacked IAS officer under lokayukta scanner
‘I operated upon Phoolan Devi, why can’t I treat Tinoo’
BHOPAL: Dr Jyoti Bindal, superintendent of JA Hospital, Gwalior, who treated sacked IAS officer Tinoo Joshi while she was eluding arrest in the disproportionate assets (DA) case has also come under Lokayukta scanner.
Dr Bindal, however, feigned ignorance on the issue and said Joshi had come to her OPD as a normal patient with suspected pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) — an infection and inflammation of the uterus, ovaries and other female reproductive organs.

Speaking to TOI, Dr Bindal said, “I have treated notorious dacoit, Phoolan Devi, when she was in jail, so why should anyone have a problem if I treat an IAS officer. A patient is a patient for me. And Tinoo Joshi is one of my oldest patients. I assisted her delivery 30 years ago, but this time she came as a general patient and made two or three visits. It was through media reports I found she was an absconder,” she said. Officials of Lokayukta’s special police establishment (SPE) said they have moved an application before special court to give them a copy of medical records and other submissions made by Tinoo Joshi after her surrender for a cross examination.
“Possibility of doctor’s collusion with Joshi to prepare a fake medical ground for a bail plea cannot be ruled out. Action would be taken if anything suspicious is found,” said an SPE officer. Six months after eluding arrest in a disproportionate assets case, Tinoo Joshi made a dramatic surrender before special court on Tuesday evening. Court dismissed her bail plea that was moved on medical grounds and sent her to judicial custody till January 26. On December 18, 2014, Supreme Court set a three-week deadline to Tinoo to surrender, which ended on Tuesday.
In her bail petition, Tinoo Joshi informed court on July 31, 2014, she underwent treatment at Gajra Raja Medical College, Gwalior, where Dr Jyoti Bindal treated her. She was later referred to Delhi's Lok Nayak Hospital on December 10, 2014.
On December 26, she went to Udaipur for treatment. On December 19, she got treatment at Mahila Chikitsalaya, Udaipur. Currently, Dr Ramesh Ojha of Udaipur is treating her and her surgery is scheduled on January 14 at Udaipur. Lokayukta officials suspect she had prepared a fake medical ground to get bail.
