Buri Ram to host FIM Superbike

Chang International Circuit in Buri Ram will host an FIM Superbike World Championship race in March, organisers said yesterday.

Organisers, sponsors and riders at yesterday's press conference.

It will be the second race of the year after the season-opener at Phillip Island in Australia, said Newin Chidchob, chief adviser of Chang International Circuit.

"The circuit is ready to host this historic event which will be the first world-class motorsport competition in Thailand. It will be a new page in Thailand's motorsport history," Newin said. "The circuit has been approved as a grade A circuit by [motorsport's governing body] FIM."

Four Thai riders have received wild-cards to compete in the event — Honda's Ratthapong Wilairot and Chakkrit Sawaengsawat, and Yamaha's Decha Kraisart and Chalermphol Pholamai.

Ratthapark, another Honda rider, is a competitor in the series.

A ticket for three days starts from 500 baht which, Newin claimed, is the cheapest in the world for a Superbike World Championship event.

"It is a new world record," he said. "We want Thais to watch a world-class race with the lowest budget."

Tickets will be available at 7-Eleven convenient stores from tomorrow. For more information, visit www.allticketthailand.com or changbric.com.
