Allahabad: After boycotting the Paush Purnima snan, Dandi Swamis took a holy dip at Sangam along with devotees on Wednesday following a rise in water level. The irrigation department has ensured a release of additional 4,516 cusec water from Narora fro the two-day auspicious festive occasion.
Dandi Swami Brahmaashram said, “River flow and water level is good so we took bath on the holy day today.
However, we will continue to press for making the river pollution free.”
As per department’s data, the discharge level of water at Kanpur was registered at 9,667 cusec on Wednesday. “We get the accurate figure of water reaching the city from Kanpur. The discharge level in Ganga at Kanpur has increased to 9,667 cusec which means that in the next 24-hours devotees will get more water at Sangam,” said department’s executive engineer Sangram Singh.
He said with the removal of silt from Ganga and release of additional water would ensure enough water during the month-long Magh Mela.
‘No Unnao corpse in Sangam’: The possibility of corpses found in Ganga in Unnao reaching Sangam along with water was quite remote, said irrigation department’s executive engineer Sangram Singh.
“Corpse have already been retrieved. The devotees need not panic over the report,” he added.
