NEW DELHI: A thumb injury he suffered on the New Year's Eve, has delayed Commonwealth Games silver medalist L Devendro Singh's much-awaited debut in the World Series Boxing. Devendro hurt his right hand just 10 days before his bout.
The Manipuri, representing Poland Hussars, was scheduled to take on Costa Rica on January 10-11 in the light flyweight (49kg) category. Devendro is now looking forward to the away clash with Team Kazakhstan on March 14.

"I injured my right hand on December 31. It was an old injury that resurfaced. I was undergoing high-intensity training required for an event like WSB. I missed out on a good opportunity," the 22-year-old told TOI on Tuesday.
Despite the injury, Devendro is staying positive. "It's all about luck. Probably there's something better in store. Injury is part of any sport. My thumb has healed to a large extent. I never stopped training but I am not taking risks," said Devendro.
Another Indian, Delhi's Gaurav Bidhuri, will be representing Italian Thunders in 52kg category of WSB, a franchise-based tournament. Gaurav is scheduled to take on USA Knockouts on January 25-26.
