DUMKA: Political parties in the state are preparing to oppose the Centre’s move to bring an ordinance for land acquisition and rehabilitation. JVM (P) principal general secretary
Pradeep Yadav said his party would mobilize like-minded parties to launch agitation against the ordinance.
“Jharkhand will be most affected state by this ordinance and under no circumstance can we allow it to be enforced,” Yadav said.
He added that JVM(P) leadership has had first round of talks on the matter with like-minded parties.
Yadav, who was in Dumka on Tuesday, said he has initiated a move to bring JMM, Congress and Left parties together to oppose the Land Acquisition Ordinance, 2014, as it was “an attempt to grab farmers’ and tribals’ land”.
Yadav said the Land Acquisition Act 2013 introduced by the
UPA government was much better as it sought to take consent of maximum number of landowners before acquiring their plot apart from upholding the status of gram sabhas and panchayats.
“It appears that the BJP-led government is switching over to the practice of the British rule as there is no such provision to take either the landowners or the traditional local bodies into confidence before acquiring lands in the proposed ordinance,” Yadav pointed out, adding industrial houses would have the final say in acquisition of land in terms of governmental support envisaged in the new ordinance.
Yadav further said the
Raghubar Das government was indifferent towards the plight of state’s farmers in terms of non-initiation of procurement of paddy crops. “BJP in its manifesto had promised high support value for paddy crops to be procured from farmers but no efforts have so far been made by the state government in this regard forcing them to sell at throwaway prices,” he said.
Yadav also took strong exception on the state government’s announcement of massive appointment drive without having any policy on domicile. “There must be provisions to ensure opportunity for state’s original residents in third and fourth grade government jobs,” he said.
He said an urgent meeting of the senior JVM (P) leaders across the state has been convened on January 18 at Ranchi to decide on the agitational recourse on aforesaid matters. On the other hand CPI (M) burnt the effigy of the
Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Pokhra chowk here on Saturday to protest against the land acquisition ordinance.
