Over 521 Leuva Patel couples to get ‘knotty’ at mass marriage programme

The event would see a record number of people from a single community tying the knot at one place.

Over 521 Leuva Patel couples from Gujarat, including 221 from Surat, will tie the knot at Khodal Dham in Rajkot district Kagvad on January 21. This is the first ever mass marriage programme organsied by Khodal Dham, a holy deity of Leuva Patel community.

The organisers claimed that the event would set a world record of largest number of people from a single community tying the knot at one place.

The majority of the couples tying the knot are from Surat and Rajkot. Sources said invitations had been sent to all Leuva Patels in Gujarat, Maharashtra and other places.

As the function is the first-of-its-kind for Leuva Patel community, the organsiers are expecting lakhs of people at theevent. Organising committee member Ramesh Mandapara said, “For the last six months, we have been working on this project. We have distributed over 2 lakh invitation cards with food coupons across Gujarat. To make this event successful, we have got good donations from Leuva Patel businessmen in Surat and other parts of Gujarat. We expect that the approximate expense behind this event would be over Rs 3 crore.”

CM Anandiben Patel will be the chief guest at the event. BJP leaders R C Faldu, Vitthal Radadia and Congress leader Siddharth Patel have also been invited. Leuva Patel leader of Surat, Kanji Bhalara, said, “The couples will also take oath that they will not maintain any difference between girl and boy and that they will never commit female foeticide. Those turning up at the event will also participate in the Clean India campaign started by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”
