Green activist gets Paryavaran Rakshak award
RAJKOT: City-based Right to Information (RTI) and green activist Shailendrasinh Jadeja was on Tuesday presented the ‘Paryavaran Rakshak Award’ by the Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB) in Gandhinagar.
GPCB has constituted the award from this year for those doing outstanding work in prevention and control of pollution along with protection and improvement of environment.
The award was given away by environment minister Mangubhai Patel at a function in Gandhinagar. Jadeja has been actively using RTI as a tool to expose irregularities in handling solid waste processing and landfill sites at Nakravadi on the outskirts of the city. The activist had filed a petition in National Green Tribunal, Pune, over the issue that led to it directing the Gujarat government to assess the situation of solid waste management in its all civic bodies.
