Internationally acclaimed actress and Bollywood director Nandita Das will be seen in a play in Dubai next month.
Between the Lines – A Relationship on Trial is the story of Maya and Shekhar, a well-educated, affluent couple in India who get caught between modernity and tradition.
Married for 10 years, Shekhar is an ambitious and high-profile criminal lawyer, while Maya — a former award winner — now balances her work drafting routine contracts for a law firm with home life and the couple’s children. All hell breaks lose when Maya decides to take up a case and seek justice. The couple end up arguing on opposite sides of a criminal trial, resulting in the blurring of their personal and professional lives.
While Das — known for her award-winning performances in films such as Earth and Bawander and for her directorial debut Firaaq — plays Maya, her husband Subodh Maskara is Shekhar. The play promises plenty of laughs with thought-provoking and tight production that has Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan praising it saying, “It is quite extraordinary, exceptionally crafted and performed...Do not miss”.
