January 13, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 06:09 am IST - ALAPPUZHA:

A memorial of Communist leader A.K. Gopalan was found vandalised at South Aryad, near here, on Monday. The police said the damage was discovered by autorickshaw drivers early in the day. The attack is believed to have occurred in the midnight. The memorial, established in 1981, is on the Asramam-Muhamma road. A cement structure of a globe, sickle and hammer, and a CPI(M) flag were found damaged. A flag pole nearby was also damaged. The Alappuzha (North) police commenced a probe on the basis of a complaint filed by the local area secretary of the party. The incident comes in the wake of the arrest of five former party workers in connection with the attack on the P. Krishna Pillai memorial at Kannarkat. — Staff Reporter
