Indian Doctors for Peace and Development (IDPD) has urged the government to ensure that the Pharma industry reduces the prices of drugs in the wake of the Code of Marketing Practice for Indian Pharmaceutical Industry by the government.
This code says that no gifts, pecuniary advantages or benefits in kind may be supplied, offered or promised to persons qualified to prescribe or supply by a pharmaceutical company and gifts for the personal benefit of healthcare professionals (such as tickets to entertainment events) also are not offered or provided. This will substantially reduce the cost of the production of the medicines said Dr L S Chawla, President, IDPD.
