Duterte inching his way to the Malacanang

By Gonzalo T. Duque

FRIENDS and allies of Davao City Mayor Rody Duterte have been regularly updating us with his improving chances of getting elected president of the country.

His vehicle is the federalism movement which is getting more adherents and volunteers nationwide.

Those urging him to eye the presidency don’t only base their choice of Duterte for his being four-square behind an idea whose time has come (federalism), but more so because of his presidential qualities in these uncertain times.

Alam naman po ninyo na dapa ang bansa natin dahil sa mga kriminalidad, drug syndicates, carnapping, kidnapping and gambling lords, and it appears that among all the presidential wanabes, it’s Duterte who has what it takes to be able to solve the country’s problems like the crime wave.

Just look around in our province.

You must have heard about a Bayambang councilor and a police officer caught engaged in drug pushing.

Hmmm… people are whispering “may protektor siguro?” For how and why the nerve, the gall and temerity!

In San Fabian, in Barangay Bolasi, everybody knows what everybody smells when the wind blows over. It smells of shabu! There must be a shabu laboratory in the area.

We urge the authorities to swoop down on this, pronto!

It’s interesting to note that PNP Provincial Director-OIC Rey Biay has announced and keeps announcing that there’s an ongoing investigation into the smell.

But a friend of us couldn’t hide his exasperation. These imbestiga reports are getting to be just that, imbestiga, wala namang resulta?

Sana may seryosong ginagawa.

There are others who consider these wasteful or useless investigations plain vehicles for political mileage.

The case of former Dagupan City Police Station Chief Rolando Borromeo comes to mind, for he loved to style himself as a serious drug buster.

What he meant pala ay drug pusher.

He was even a Dangerous Drugs Board awardee. You were had ha, Manong Bebot Villar?

Ah, yes, two weeks back, two officials were arrested for selling shabu!

They changed the name of shabu to tawas.

Que barbaridad! The gall again, ha!!

Are they trying to make us look stupid?

In Dagupan City, our Mayor Belen Fernandez continues to be a victim of below the belt broadcast commentary by one whose mouth is bought.

The incorrigibly biased commentator did his worst to make a Christian act by the mayor look diabolical. This is the same guy who accused the mayor of masterminding an assassination attempt on his life which our police officers consider absurd.

How would you describe a radio commentator who saw it all, the city mayor coming forward and announcing that her complaint against a city hall employee was going to be dropped, nay, it was dropped in the name of Christian love, forgiveness and compassion, and describing the mayor’s act names.

The commentator kept on telling the town that the mayor was doing it to humiliate the lady employee!!! Who is he to put motive into the mayor’ s mind?

The television audience who saw Mayor Belen’s act were deeply touched, saying napaka humble naman ni mayor, opting forgiveness rather than redress which was the most legal and appropriate thing to do?

Ano bang klase ang mga taong (biased commentators) ganyan? Wala ng magawa undi manira ng kapwa?

Pati pagpunta ni mayora sa CR binabatikos! Are they voyeurs?

Why don’t they tackle hard, serious issues of graft and corruption at city hall which were dime-a-dozen before?

Yong kaso ng P 16-milyon dumpsite. Where did the money the city paid for that dumpsite, eh, wala namang turnover kasi under land reform pala ang property na yon? This commentator could defend that absurd sale or purchase for all his biased mind could, rather than pounce on the very compassionate act he was converting into a satanic act?

Daang Matuwid should be the central subject now.

Yong River Cruise mystery, this would be a more substantive issue than highlight on what has been a resolved case, converting it into a telenovela of sorts in a distorted way?

The river cruise facility, now three boats, has been revived.

Btw, our garbage disposal problem is about to be meaningfully solved, thanks to our mayor’s unceasing resolve and her many friends who are helping making Dagupan a nice plan to live in.

May we appeal to our colleagues to stick to higher issues, not libel or slander people.

We wish to congratulate our media partner Ashok Vasandani who the other day was reported to be in celebrative mood as his application for dual citizenship had been approved!

Now, Ashok can run for city councilor or vice mayor, as we hear, he is casting covetous eyes on greater public service in the city.

Advice lang natin sa kanya: stay great on the side of the good people, friend.
