Politicos welcome announcement of Delhi Assembly Election dates: Who said what

Leaders of various political outfits cut across party lines on Monday hailed the Election Commission's announcement of Delhi Assembly poll dates. Delhi will vote to elect a new Assembly on February 7 and the votes will be counted February 10, Election Commissioner VS Sampath announced today. More than 1.3 crore people will be eligible to vote across 11,763 polling centres. Delhi elected a hung assembly in December 2013 after which the Aam Aadmi Party formed a minority government headed by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Kejriwal with Congress backing.

Delhi will vote to elect a new Assembly on February 7 and the votes will be counted on February 10, Election Commissioner VS Sampath announced today. Delhi elected a hung Assembly in December 2013 after which the Aam Aadmi Party formed a minority government headed by party chief Arvind Kejriwal with Congress backing.

However, Kejriwal resigned on February 14, 2014. President's Rule was imposed in the city on Feb 17 last year.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Shahnawaz Hussain: We are prepared, BJP will win & the CM will be from our party.

Delhi BJP chief Satish Upadhyay: The results of Delhi Cantonment are certainly very encouraging for us and Delhi is not untouched by the wave across the country and there will be good results in favour of the BJP.

BJP national secretary Shrikant Sharma: We welcome the poll announcement. We are confident of a government with majority as such a government is necessary in Delhi that can move in tandem with the Centre and ensure good governance and all-round development of Delhi.

BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra: Welcome this decision; there has been no stable govt for nearly an year, this will be comeback of governance.

BJP spokesperson and New Delhi MP Meenakshi Lekhi: The way 36 percent voters voted for BJP in the last Lok Sabha elections, it is clear that BJP is going to come out with a major victory in Delhi.

Delhi BJP president Vijay Goel: Chyunavo ki ghosna ke baad BJP toh kam se kam bilkul tayaar hai. (After the announcement of poll dates at least BJP is all prepared.)

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) minister Manish Sisodia: Appeal to the people of Delhi to vote for party that can fight corruption, not one which talks but doesn't work. Arvind Kejriwal has work to show and he has a vision.

AAP leader Ashutosh: Delhi has been waiting a long time, we are very confident we will win with majority.

AICC General Secretary and Communication Department Chairman Ajay Maken: People who are saying that Cong isn't in competition should look at Delhi cantonment poll results.

Congress`s Delhi unit chief JP Aggarwal: Under BJP pressure they have delayed taking this decision.

Delhi Congress chief Arvinder Singh Lovely: The Gujarat model has failed in Delhi.

Congress leader Haroon Yusuf: Congress is only 800 votes behind BJP, in the coming time Congress will take the no. 1 seat. We are never going to support AAP, and this is a very categorical statement.

Congress leader Randeep Surjewala: Welcome this announcement, Congress is excited to form the government again. Delhi Cantonment results validate the fact that Cong does not need support.
