BHAWANIPATNA: Roads accidents claimed seven lives in the state on Sunday. The two injured are battling for life.
In Kalahandi district, four persons were killed and one seriously injured when a four-wheeler collided head-on with a motorcycle on NH-26 near Gholijuba Chhak, about 34 km from Bhawanipatna.
Police said three persons on the motorcycle died on the spot.
They were identified as Susanta Gahir, 32, of Panigaon, Madhusudan Majhi, 23, of Bengaon, Sudhir Panda, 26, of Kadopadar.
One among the two in the vehicle succumbed on way to the district headquarters hospital at Bhawanipatna. He was identified Susanta Nag, 28, of Kadopadar in Jaipatna block. The driver, Manas Bisi, 28, was admitted to VSS Medical College and Hospital in a critical condition, police said, adding, he is a native of Junagarh.
The four-wheeler was on its way to Koksara from Junagarh when the accident took place. After hitting the motorcycle, the vehicle rammed a roadside palm tree. The impact of the accident was so severe that the front wheels of the vehicle came off.
“The bodies have been sent for postmortem,” said IIC of Junagarh police station Abhaya Behera.
In Sundargarh, three members of a family died and one was injured after a truck ran over them on NH-143 near Champajharan. They were on a motorcycle. The driver and the helper of the truck fled the spot after the accident.

The deceased were identified as Bisa Panna, 42, of Talakudar, his wife Manji, 38, and daughter Jita, 19.
Police took the four to Rourkela Government Hospital where Bisa succumbed. The three were then admitted to Ispat General Hospital, where the mother-daughter duo died. Bisa’s 10-year-old son Mahadev is in the ICU of the hospital and is reported to be critical.
“The family was on its way to Chandiposh to attend a function when the accident took place. We have seized the truck,” said IIC Chandiposh police station U S Naik.
