Qs on study abroad
Study abroad counsellor Karan Gupta answers your queries:
LLM degree
I am currently enrolled in an LLB programme. I plan to go to the UK for LLM. Is it as good to read law in countries like Singapore, Australia and Hong Kong as it is in the UK and the US?
Aanal Desai
All the countries mentioned above are good study abroad destinations. However, if you intend to practise in India, then please note that the Bar Council of India has stated, "A degree in law from a foreign university, obtained by an Indian national or a person of Indian origin having double citizenship in India who has completed 21 years of age, can be recognised for the purpose of enrolment as an advocate if the following conditions are fulfilled: (i) The degree has been obtained after regularly pursuing the course for a period which is not less than three years in case the degree in law is obtained after graduation in any branch of knowledge or for a period of not less than five years if admitted into the inte grated course after passing the +2 stage in the higher secondary examination or its equivalent; (ii) the uni versity is recognised by the Bar Council of India and the candidate con cerned passes the examination conducted by the Bar Council of India in substantive and procedural law subjects, which are specifically needed to practise law in India and prescribed by the Bar Council of India from time to time.
Those who joined the LLB programme in a recognised foreign university prior to February 21, 2005, need not write this examination."
German engineering
I am a class XI student and wish to study mechanical engineering in Germany. Is it a good option? How does one apply for a place?
Sonali
In my view, international education in Germany is good, but you may find it difficult to land a job after graduation. If you network well, you may be able to find work. Visit newdelhi.daad.de for information on universities, admission process, scholarships, deadlines, fees, etc.
