The people of Kalaburagi woke up to a pleasant surprise on Sunday as vivid colours dotted the stretch of the main road from Jagat Circle to S.M. Pandit Rangamandir, turning it into an open air art gallery with the artists from different parts of the district and outside showcasing their works.
More than 240 professional and budding artists, including students of Bachelor and Master in Fine Arts, displayed their works at Chitra Sante - an art festival, jointly organised by the Hyderbad Karnataka Artists Association, Hyderabad Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (HKCCI) and Gulbarga University here.
The works ranged from charcoal sketches to abstracts, landscapes, portraits and modern art using different modes of colour.
The Chitra Sante was a welcome distraction for many visitors from the rigours of the daily life. Prashant Y.Goldsmith from Kalaburagi had put up his oil painting works including those on Kurukshetra and other mythological subjects, replicating the works of the immortal painter late S.M. Pandit. Mr. Goldsmith, who is a flautist by profession, has displayed his work in art galleries and exhibitions in different States.
Another artist P.R. Hosallimath, brought out the teachings of Lord Buddha and 12th century social reformer Basaveshwara.
More than 1,000 paintings and works of art were on display, with some even purchasing the paintings. The highlight of the event was the display of rare works of eminent artists including the former chairman of the Karnataka Lalitkala Academy V.G. Andani, Rehman Patel, who specialises in Surpur miniature paintings, and Central Lalitkala Akademy Award winner Ayazuddin Patel.
