MANILA, Philippines – Bring lots of water, be ready for the crowds and know where the first-aid booths are.

The Philippine National Police has issued health tips to Filipinos who want to take part in the public events during Pope Francis’ visit to the country this week.

In its “Papal Visit Health Tips,” the PNP, one of the many government agencies planning security arrangements for the four-day papal visit, gave out health reminders for those who will brave the crowds to catch a glimpse of the Pope.

“Expect the heat, rain, and lots of mosh-pit like crowds during the nearing papal visit,” said the PNP Police Community Relations Group in a reminder posted on its Twitter account.

Pope Francis will arrive in the country on January 15 and will hold public engagements in several places in Metro Manila and will also visit typhoon “Yolanda” survivors in Tacloban City, Leyte.

The PNP, along with other law enforcement agencies, is gearing up for the millions of Filipinos expected to turn out for the papal visit.

Filipinos were reminded to bring plenty of water and be considerate of other people’s safety by not pushing or shoving others to get ahead.

“Be prepared. Bring fans and raincoats instead of umbrellas, so as not to obstruct the view of others,” the PNP added.

Those with chronic illnesses or medical conditions should keep their medicines handy.

In case of an emergency, one should be calm and not panic, as the PNP reminded the public to be aware of their location relative to first aid booths should they need medical attention.

“A representative from the Department of Health will give health tips to those attending the events,” the PNP said, adding that PNP would set up booths to assist devotees.
