Direct flight for Kuala Lumpur from Feb. 15

December 24, 2014 12:51 am | Updated November 16, 2021 06:15 pm IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

Malindo Air, a Malaysian-based airline, will operate direct flights from Vizag to Kuala Lumpur. The flight will arrive here from Kuala Lumpur on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays at 11.55 p.m. and leave at 12.55 a.m. (night).

It may be recalled that the airline operator has opened bookings on their website long ago for travel from February 15, 2015.

“We have appointed a Station Manager in Vizag and will soon open an office in the city,” Kavita Joshi, country manager – India of Malindo Air, informed The Hindu some time ago. She, however, declined to divulge more details on the plea that a media conference would be held before the launch of the inaugural flight.

The connectivity to Malaysia was yet another success for the efforts of Air Traveller’s Association of India to connect Vizag with international destinations, its president D. Varada Reddy noted in a statement issued on Monday.

He claimed that Visakhapatnam would shortly be connected to Bangkok (Thailand) and Port Blair by Air India. He noted that Indigo was likely to increase the number of services to Kolkota, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Chennai. Air Asia would start flying twice a day from Vizag to Bangalore with effect from January 15, 2015.

Night parking

Mr. Reddy noted that with IndiGo planning to shift night parking base to Visakhapatnam from February 2015 and the launch of new flights, Visakhapatnam would be a hub for Andhra Pradesh.

“IndiGo will operate a direct flight from Vizag to Mumbai from February 1. Though Air Asia has expressed its plan to operate two flights to Bangalore, they are yet to come up with the schedule. Air India has approached us for the Port Blair flight in the past but we are yet to hear from them on it,” Airport Director C. Pattabhi told The Hindu.
