The silver jubilee celebrations of the city police Commissionerate at the CAR grounds here on Saturday was marked by flagging off the 25 new patrol vehicles and releasing the special commemorative postal envelope.
Several IPS officers, who had served as City Police Commissioners during the last 25 years, were present.
As Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Home Minister K.J. George were unable to make it to the event in view of the technical snag encountered by their helicopter, Revenue Minister V. Srinivas Prasad, who is also the district in-charge, took the salute at the special parade.
Mr. Prasad also flagged off the new patrol vehicles. The new Bolero, equipped with an advanced wireless communication system and first-aid kits, will replace the 16 old ones. While two new vehicles will be used by the Inspectors of newly-created traffic police stations at V.V. Puram and Siddharthanagar, one each will be used by the Inspectors of the women’s police station and the City Crime Branch. The remaining new vehicles will be retained as escort vehicles, the police said.
Pratap Simha, MP, released a special commemorative postal cover brought out by the Postal Department.
Eight out of the 15 former Police Commissioners of Mysuru city — H.R. Kasturi Rangan, Kempaiah, C. Chandrashekar, Pravin Sood, Bhaskar Rao, S. Parashivamurthy, Sunil Agarwal and K.L. Sudheer — were felicitated by Mr. Prasad.
Mr. Prasad complimented all personnel who had served in the Commissionerate since it was created on November 22, 1989. Stating that he had personally known all the police officials, from V.V. Bhaskar to M.A. Saleem, the Minister recalled the “sensitivity” with which the police force in the city had handled potential law and order situations. Earlier, welcoming the gathering, Police Commissioner M.A. Saleem said the Commissionerate was carved out of Mysuru district for efficient policing.
