Change of conservation zone opposed

January 11, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 06:02 am IST - Hyderabad:

Mohammed Ali Shabbir, deputy CLP leader in the Legislative Council, strongly opposed the change of conservation zones in the State to residential use and demanded that the government cancel all the GOs issued in this connection.

He told presspersons here on Saturday that the TRS government had issued 25 GOs – 23 of them from January 5 to 8 - for change of land use. More than 145 acres of land in HMDA limits was converted from conservation zone to residential through seven GOs.

Parks to residential

In Warangal district, land use was changed from parks to residential. Similarly, 17.5 acres of industrial and green belt land in Kamareddy had been converted into residential use.

“The TRS government is trying to wipe out all lung space from Telangana,” Mr. Shabbir said and accused the government of trying to raise funds through all means.

The Congress party welcomed the government’s decision to regularise up to 125 sq. yds of encroachments in Hyderabad.

But the government was bent on selling all available land and if this continues, there will be no land left even for the construction of a school.

Mr. Shabbir wanted the government to seek funds from the Centre instead of selling away lands. He expressed fear that the State might become a desert if no lung space was left.

He urged the NGOs and environmentalists to oppose the change of conservation zones in the State.
