Kevin Patel did the state proud when he returned with doubles title in AITA National Series tennis tournament played in New Delhi recently.
Joining hands with another Amdavadi
Vipul Mehta, Kevin beat the pair of
Dron Walia and
Ishan Sethi in an exciting final.
Vipul and Kevin did well to get hold of the first set 6-2 but their opponents from United Kingdom wrested back the initiative by winning the second set 7-5.
The final set was a see-saw battle with both the teams fighting hard. However, the top seed pair of Vipul and Kevin settled the issue with a 10-7 win. In earlier rounds, Vipul and Kevin beat Jaishvin Sidana of Punjab and Srinivasan Kannan of Karnataka 6-2, 6-2 in the quarters.
In semis, they beat Ishant Dabas of Delhi and Haryana's Aakash Ahlawat by a similar margin.
Meanwhile in the singles, Kevin, who trains at
Shaishya Tennis Academy, marched into the semis where he lost 3-6, 0-6 to Vipul.
