January 10, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 06:27 am IST - MALAPPURAM:

The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VCAB) has registered another case against suspended Public Works Secretary T.O. Sooraj.

The latest case filed by the VACB office here on January 5 against Sooraj was for violating the Public Works Department (PWD) rules in the award of a Rs.8-crore work of the road between Parappanangadi and Kadalundikkadavu.

Four more suspects

VACB Dy.SP K. Salim said that a preliminary investigation found Sooraj and his four colleagues in the Kerala State Construction Corporation responsible for causing financial loss to the government by awarding the Rs.8-crore road work to a sub-contractor without tender and without abiding by the PWD rules.

Although a complaint was filed in October last year, the VACB decided to proceed with the case after its preliminary probe found Sooraj responsible as Chairman of the Construction Corporation.

Suo motu case

Staff Reporter adds from Kalpetta: The VACB, Wayanad, has registered a suo motu case against three persons, including Sooraj, in connection with alleged discrepancies in a tender process related to erecting crash barriers on the wayside of the Kozhikode- Vythiri- Gudalur inter-State highway.

K.B. Basheer, former general manager, Kerala State Construction Corporation, and M/s Raveendran, a construction company based in Kozhikode, are the other accused in the case, said K.K. Markose, Dy.SP, VACB, Wayanad.
