Body in suitcase: Victim identified as ex-port trust staff
CHENNAI: Police have traced the identity of the man whose body was found in a suitcase in Madhavaram on Thursday. The deceased has been identified as Mark Williams, 70, a retired port trust employee.
An Anglo-Indian, he lived at his relative's house in Peravallur near Perambur. The relative lodged a man missing complaint a week ago.
On Friday, they visited the morgue in the Stanley Medical College Hospital (SMCH) and identified the deceased as Williams, based on the shirt and the shorts he was wearing.
The body was bloated and decomposed beyond recognition. Police recovered a watch with a Chennai Port Trust logo embossed on it.
Williams came to India three months back and stayed at his relative's house. After retirement, he had moved to Australia to live with his son.
Madhavaram police have formed special teams to probe all possible angles to solve the case.
"We are also waiting for the postmortem report to confirm the exact day and time of his murder and the nature of injuries on his body. His mobile phone was also missing," a police officer said.
A police team has been assigned to prepare a call list of Williams in order to narrow down on the suspects.
Madhavaram police have registered a case under the Section 302 (murder) of IPC and launched a hunt for the culprits. Further investigations are on.
