MUMBAI: A housewife was arrested for robbing a doctor’s necklace worth Rs 1.5 lakh at a hospital in Kandivli. The incident took place around 4pm on Thursday. The complainant, Dr Neeta Pataria (52), works at a private hospital in Charkop’s Sector 2.
The accused’s elder brother had been admitted to the hospital for treatment and was discharged on January 2. His medical bill came up to Rs 18,000.
After the accused asked for a discount, the hospital reduced the bill to Rs 14,000.
“The accused comes from a poor family. The hospital allegedly gave her a temporary bill for the payment. The accused needed a permanent receipt to claim medical insurance for her brother. But the hospital said permanent receipts are only given out when full payment is made, without any discount,” an official said. “The accused picked up a fight with Pataria on the issue and snatched the ruby-sapphire-studded necklace. tnn
