The 13 Awards Season Beauty Trends You Need To Know About
Purple smokey eyes, copper-toned locks and teal manicures are just some of the trends we can expect to see on the 2015 Golden Globes and Oscars red carpets
Awards season 2015 is very nearly upon us, with the Golden Globes kicking it all off on Sunday (Jan 11).
But aside from the winners, and the red carpet fashion, it’s also the springboard for many a red carpet beauty trend.
We cornered some of the UK’s biggest make-up, hair and nail experts to find out their predictions for awards season 2015 beauty trends. Here’s what they said…
Make-Up
1. Dewy Skin
“Dewy, glowing, healthy skin will make a regular appearance on the red carpet, enhanced with subtle rose pink and warm shades on eyes and lips,” said Justine Jenkins, celebrity make-up artist and cruelty-free cosmetics ambassador.
2. Earthy Eyes
“Neutral colours on the eyes will be popular with earthy hues like taupe and brown, both in metallic and matt finishes,” she added.
3. Natural Brows
“Beautifully-polished brows are something you’ll see throughout the awards season,” said Justine, who created Fearne Cotton’s wedding day make-up.
“I personally like to use a pencil to create this look as you can replicate the hairs making them look super natural, yet polished.”
4. Bold Shades
“The smokey eye is a classic red carpet look. Alongside the classic greys and browns, we may also see purple and navy shades for the more daring,” she predicted.
Hair
5. Block Colours
“It’ll be great to see overall block colour (which is always brave on the catwalks) replicated in softer incarnations on the red carpet, from very deep purples on afro looks to almost high resolution coppers, blondes and chocolates on European hair,” said Errol Douglas MBE.
6. Intricate Up-Dos
"Intricate braiding, sleek and low ponies and dramatic partings to dramatise classic up-dos – we'll see various interpretations of these matched to the designers chosen,” he added.
7. Sharp Partings
“The parting shift! All the celebrities will be award-ready by using their parting to create extreme or soft subtle looks, parting in the middle or shifted out to corner of the eye for drama or those playing it safe will sit it in between,” said Andy Smith, Creative Director at Real Hair, Chelsea.
8. Voluminous Texture
“Volume, volume, volume! Red carpets demand texture and movement within hair. Even super sleek hair needs a little root lift,” said renowned celebrity hairdresser Charles Worthington.
9. Glossy Waves
“Polished waves are always a red carpet favorite. Hair will have an effortless quality - nothing too structured or fussy. Less is more!” added Charles.
10. Sixties Beehive
“We will be seeing modern twists on classics, the beehive is always a good look as it gives volume and height and is great to make someone with the finest hair look like they have long luscious locks,” said Olivia Freer, stylist at Lisa Shepherd.
11. Loose Plaits
“Fishtail plaits may make an appearance, even if they are just across the top of the head or worn over to the side. I like to call this style ‘shabby chic’ as it is minimal effort with maximum effect!” said Lisa.
Nails
12. Teal Talons
“One of the key shades to walk the red carpet in will be teal. Teal is a deep, luxurious shade which is versatile enough that it can be paired with a variety of coloured outfits but especially black. It adds an exciting pop of colour to a classic awards season look,” said Sam Watkinson from Red Carpet Manicure.
13. Marsala Mani
“In addition, Marsala will also make an appearance having been announced as Pantone Colour of the Year for 2015,” predicted Sam.
