NASHIK: Eighty collectors from across India have come together to present a collection of rare coins, currency notes, stamps and antiques during a three-day exhibition, Rare Fair, at the Indraprastha hall on Gangapur road.
The exhibit - which boasts of coins from the Mughal, Victorian and pre-Independence eras put together by the Nashik-based Collectors Society of Numismatics and Rare Items - was inaugurated by Nashik police commissioner Kulwant Kumar Sarangal on Friday.
Some of the items on show will be put on a day's auction on Saturday. Achyut Gujarati, president of the society, said that an auction like this would be a first for Nashik. "The concept of auctioning coins and notes is not known to Nashik citizens and hence we decided to introduce the concept here. The auction would be conducted twice; at 2.30pm and 6pm on Saturday," Gujarati said.
