Shiv Sena MLA Prakash Bala Sawant passes away

Shiv Sena MLA from Bandra East (Kherwadi) Prakash Bala Sawant died after a protracted battle with cancer at Raheja Hospital in the early hours of Friday. He was 64.

MUMBAI: Shiv Sena MLA from Bandra East (Kherwadi) Prakash Bala Sawant died after a protracted battle with cancer at Raheja Hospital in the early hours of Friday. He was 64.
He is survived by wife, a daughter and four sisters.
Sawant was twice Sena’s Kherwadi MLA, earning the distinction of having the Thackeray clan as his loyal voters.
He was first elected to the BMC from Kherwadi in 1997. He served two more terms in the BMC even as he won the assembly polls in 2009.
He was re-elected to Vidhan Sabha in 2014. Sawant headed the BMC’s law panel for two consecutive terms.
Uddhav Thackeray visited Sawant’s Bandra residence and paid his respects. Sena ministers Eknath Shinde and Divakar Raote, vibhag pramukh Anil Parab, BJP MLA Parag Alavani and state BJP spokesperson Madhav Bhandari were also among those who paid their respects.
