With the Golden Globes airing this Sunday, screen-related awards season is about to hit full tilt. For us, that means all those late-entry trophy contenders have their A-list cast members trolling the TV circuit to hawk their wares. (Eddie Redmayne, Anna Kendrick, Jessica Lange—oh, my!) Highlights this week also include, but are not limited to: Nicole Kidman and Jimmy Fallon embarrassing each other about their "date" gone wrong, Hayley Atwell (aka *Agent Carter'*s Agent Carter) being the most down-home Kansas City, Missouri girl the UK ever produced, Liam Neeson re-affirming his perfection, and Glee giving us the heebie-jeebies. You're starting off strong on the culture front, 2015. We hope you keep up the good work.
Eddie Redmayne. Is there any man in Hollywood currently more charming than Eddie Redmayne?! Can he win the personality Oscar for his promotional efforts? When you're done watching him rehash a private humiliation on British television in the clip above, head here to see him resurrect a song-and-dance number from his Oliver! days as a wee boy. There's no such thing as a secret on The Graham Norton Show.
Jimmy claims he didn't realize this was happening when it happened, but wasn't the movie Fever Pitch essentially based on this scenario? Also, how aggressively on-the-prowl was Nicole Kidman that she was crossing her fingers a goofball former Saturday Night Live cast member would give her the time of day? In any event, this is some good uncomfortable TV that Fallon, bless his awkward heart, does not let Kidman live down for a solid 10 minutes. Way to be a good sport, Mrs. Keith Urban.
You surely know her from the Captain America movies, but with Marvel's Agent Carter debuting this week, Hayley Atwell is officially on the super scene in a big way! America, meet your new favorite mortal S.H.I.E.L.D. agent. (Just kidding, Agent Coulson! No one could ever supplant you!)
Oh, snap! Real Talk: The Jessica Lange Edition.
Somehow, when Jon Stewart flips his heartfelt, earnest switch, he can always make us feel just a little bit better in the wake of a tragedy. Je Suis, Charlie.
Is there a more complete man in the Western world than Liam Neeson? The stature, the humor, the Irish brogue, the easy charm—Jimmy Fallon is a toddler next to this remarkable specimen. Best idea: He gets signed into the Marvel universe as an Asgardian something-or-other, giving the world a terrestrial Holy Trinity of perfection with Chris Hemsworth, Idris Elba, and Neeson all fighting to protect the peoples of the Nine Realms. Did we just make Thor the lynchpin superhero property? The Tom Hiddelston bonus says yes!
Look's like Peggy Carter has this under control, you guys.
In case that little dash of Anna K. in the Graham Norton interview wasn't enough for you, here's her full interview with Seth Meyers. Late night talk is just so much more fun when she's got movies to promote!
Is this happening? This is happening. Yes, Glee reimagines the hits of the day, and there’s been no bigger hit in the history of Disney than "Let It Go," but putting it in the lungs of Lea Michele enters the surreal. When Michele channeled Barbra Streisand to sing "Don't Rain On My Parade" from Funny Girl in Season 1 it was hilariously on the nose, as the young actress' life/career is essentially an homage to Babs. The song "Barbra Streisand" was even used to persuade Michele's character to stay true to herself and not get a nose job in Season 2. But giving her Idina Menzel's now-signature song is next level. Michele, who started her career on Broadway, plays Rachel Berry. Rachel Berry's mom is Shelby Corcoran, played by Menzel, one of Broadway's biggest stars, who looks suspiciously like Michele considering no one looks like either of them. Menzel surged into a new phase of her career with "Let It Go," and now Michele is singing it as the show that invented her mainstream success is ending. Menzel is coming off a divorce from her longtime husband, Taye Diggs, whom she met on the set of Rent (the production that created her star), as Michele is surely still moving past the death of her boyfriend, Cory Monteith, whom she met on the set of Glee (the production that created her star). Is everyone following along in the math so far, because we just added that all up and got a sum of WTF? Too close, guys! A little too close.
