MBABANE – Over 500 gospel music lovers had to pay an extra amount after being found with fake tickets during the Umlilo/Dups Crossover Gospel Music Festival.

The music lovers had spent over E15 000 buying fake tickets which saw them not being allowed to see the show.
The show which featured South African stars such as Sphumelele Mbambo, Ayanda Shange, Donny Ngwenyama and Deborah Fraiser, was attended by over 7 000 people who included the Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs David ‘Cruiser’ Ngcamphalala and Stanley Dlamini, Swaziland National Council of Arts and Culture (SNCAC) Chief Executive Officer.

Some of the tickets were discovered as early as 5pm while others were discovered towards midnight.
Some of the fans claimed to have bought the fake tickets from individuals around Manzini while others were sold outside the Mavuso Exhibition and Trade Centre.

The officials who were at the entrance were able to detect the fake tickets through the electronic scanners that were placed at the entrance.
The fans were first questioned where they had obtained the tickets and were told that they would not be allowed to enter into the venue as their tickets were not authentic.

Questioned

“When the tickets were discovered, I was called as I had to see them. Although some of the people claimed they had bought them from people who told them that I had allowed them to sell the tickets, I mentioned that they were not authentic and therefore it would not be possible for them to enter,” said gospel singer and organiser of the show Mduduzi Simelane.

Simelane said after explaining to the fans, others had no problem as they paid again and were allowed entry. Actual tickets cost E30 while VIP was E50.
