Anticipating fog, airlines cancel flights in advance, day turns out bright & sunny

Weather conditions on Thursday were well within the limit for flight operations.

Despite clear weather mostly throughout the day, all flights operating from the Chandigarh airport had been cancelled in advance as airlines anticipated disruption in service due to heavy fog.

The permissible limit for a flight to land or take off is 1,000-1,200 metre of runway visibility at the local airport.

The weather conditions on Thursday were well within the limit for flight operations but fearing massive financial losses in lieu of cancellation, the airlines decided to limit their service.

According to the airport authorities the cancelled flights included three flights of Jet Airways, four flights of IndiGo and SpiceJet, one each of Air India and Air Asia, two of GoAir,.

As the flights were cancelled, the passengers had to suffer at the hands of some of the airline operators who failed to inform them about the status of the flights.

Festive offer

Train traffic were affected due to fog in other parts of Northern India. The New Delhi-Kalka Shatabdi (12011), Una-New Delhi Jan Shatabdi (12058), Delhi-Kalka Himalyan Queen (14095), Mumbai-Kalka Paschim Express (22451) and Bhiwani-Kalka Ekta Express(14795) reached an hour late then schedule.

The delayed trains included Howrah-Kalka mail (12311) which was delayed by two hours and 35 minutes and arrived at 5.35 am. Unchahar Express (14217) which has a scheduled arrival at the Chandigarh railway station at 9.25 am and reached 5 hours and 22 minutes behind schedule.

Lucknow-Chandigarh Sadhbhavna Express (12231) was the worse affected and was late by 5 hours and 30 minutes and was expected to arrive here at 3.30 pm.
