Several right wing groups have demanded a ban on the Aamir Khan starrer PK. The Rajkumar Hirani-directed film has raised the hackles of the saffron brigade with the Bajrang Dal leading demonstrations against its screening at various places in the country for “insulting” Hindu deities through their “objectionable” portrayal in the film.
The groups have resorted to vandalism by damaging theatres screening the film, burning effigies and posters of PK. Leaders of other religious groups too have expressed their displeasure.

Social message

These are trying times that the country is going through. With tempers riding high, and the social fabric in a flux, several religious groups are expressing their ire on the content in cinema.

To soothe frayed nerves and send a social message across, actor Amitabh Bachchan has been roped in for an ad film that stresses the need to rise above religion and caste for inclusive development.

The film is a brainchild of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who personally called up Bachchan to lend his star power to the project.
