LUDHIANA: Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal and Union railway minister Suresh Prabhu will jointly lay the foundation stone of the Multi Modal Logistics Hub (MMLH) at Qila Raipur in Ludhiana on January 20. The MMLH is expected provide an economic boost to the district and even generate employment for people living in and around the village.
A decision in this regard was taken by the chief minister while presiding over a high-level meeting of officers of the state government and the railway ministry at his office in Chandigarh.

Ludhiana deputy commissioner Rajat Agarwal said the MMLH, which is to be constructed at a cost of Rs 500 crore, will be a game changer for the industry. He said the MMLH will provide direct linkage to the eastern freight corridor and the Ludhiana-Dhuri-Jakhal feeder line would join it with the western corridor in Rewari. This, he said, would greatly benefit the industry with prompt, easy and cheap transport of raw material and finished goods through railways.
The MMLH will be equipped with state-of-art facilities like container handling yard, bulk handling yard, rail side warehousing, multi-user warehousing, temperature controlled warehousing, truck terminus and others.
According to Agarwal, the MMLH will also have the facility of reefer containers for domestic and international cargo, silo storage for one lakh metric tones of grain and the domestic terminal will have storage facility on the railhead for steel, fertilizer, cement and others.
This will cut down logistical cost.
