John Maloof and Charlie Siskel’s Finding Vivian Maier and Gabe Polsky’s Red Army (pictured) are among the four films nominated for best documentary screenplay from the Writers Guild of America (WGA).

The WGA Awards includes prizes for film, television and radio, and have been presented since 1949. In order to be eligible for entry in the feature-length doc screenplay category, films must have screened theatrically in LA or New York for at least a week in 2014.

In addition, the WGA limits its award nominees to scripts that meet the terms outlined in the guild’s minimum basic agreement, or the standards of the projects’ affiliated writers guilds.

Alongside Finding Vivian Maier and Red Army – for which writers Maloof and Siskel as well as Polsky received nominations – the remaining documentary screenplay nominees are writers Mark Bailey and Kevin McAlester for Rory Kennedy’s Last Days in Vietnam, and Brian Knappenberger for his film The Internet’s Own Boy: The Story of Aaron Swartz.

Elsewhere, the nominees for best documentary script for current events are Michael Kirk and Mike Wiser for the “Losing Iraq” and “United States of Secrets: The Program (Part One)” episodes of PBS doc strand ‘Frontline,’ as well as Martin Smith for the “United States of Secrets: Privacy Lost (Part Two)” episode of ‘Frontline.’

Finally, writers vying for the best documentary script prize for non-current events programming include Geoffrey C. Ward for episode five of PBS’s The Roosevelts: An Intimate History; Kirk and Wiser for the “League of Denial: The NFL’s Concussion Crisis” episode of ‘Frontline’; and Ann Druyan and Steven Soter for the “Standing Up in the Milky Way” episode of Fox and Nat Geo’s COSMOS: A SpaceTime Odyssey.

The WGA Awards will be presented on February 14 in a ceremony at LA’s Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel.
