Students of the Regional Institution of Education, Mysuru, (RIEM) who are pursuing M.Sc.(Ed) and other courses staged a demonstration seeking recognition from the National Council for Teachers Education (NCTE) and the University Grants Commission (UGC).
The RIEM is one of the four such institutions specialising in education under the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) in the country – the other three being at Ajmer, Bhopal and Bhubaneshwar. Te students fear that the lack of recognition from the NCTE and the UGC could harm their future prospects. The students pointed out that the NCTE notification accords recognition for B.Sc. B.Ed. courses but was not clear about the B.Sc.Ed or M.Sc.Ed courses offered by the RIE.
The agitating students said they face confusion over nomenclature every year, which has to be sorted out by a notice by the NCERT and NCTE to all State governments.
RIE Principal D.G. Rao pointed out that the confusion was over nomenclature only and the courses were sought after, with students being selected through campus recruitments. The issue would be sorted out, he added.
