Former Gujarat University VC Vasani is dead

AHMEDABAD: Noted educationist and former vice-chancellor of Gujarat University, N V Vasani, passed away on Wednesday. He was 75.
He has left behind his wife Damyantiben, one son and two daughters. His last rites were formed at the crematorium behind VS Hospital. The funeral was attended by educationists.
Vasani was also the vice-chancellor of Nirma University. He was in coma after he suffered a heart attack.
Vasani was born in Barwala village of Ahmedabad district on August 19, 1939. His first name was Navneet but many did not know this — he was always known as NV Vasani.
After completing his engineering degree, he joined as a lecturer in LD Engineering College. Vasani later became the joint director of technical education.
Vasani was instrumental in holding the first centralized admissions for degree engineering and pharmacy courses. The admission procedure with minor changes is still being followed.
