MUMBAI: Two days after an auto driver knifed a girl he was in love with in Dahisar (E) and lost his life minutes later in a hit-and-run mishap, the police on Wednesday said that the girl and the man had spent two hours together before the incident.
They said they were trying to find out what was the trigger for the attack.
Officers were looking at the possibility of the auto driver, Anil Dandekar (23), having tried to pressure the 17-year-old victim into marrying him and her refusal could have irked him.
The girl is recuperating in the ICCU of a private hospital at Borivli after receiving 13 stitches on her throat.
“Dandekar and the victim were close for the past two years,” an officer said. “After she left from her tuitions at Dahisar (east) around 7pm, Dandekar picked her up and the couple hung out for nearly two hours before the attack. If the victim had had a problem with Dandekar, she wouldn’t have left along with him in the first place. Her home is barely 200m from her tuition.”
