VIJAYAWADA: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu announced ex gratia of Rs. 5 lakh to the next of the kin of 13 persons who were killed in a road accident in Anantapur district on Wednesday.
Mr. Naidu said that the government would pay an ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh to each person who was seriously injured in the mishap when a bus fell into a valley on Penukonda-Madakasira road. An exgratia of Rs. 1 lakh would be paid to the other injured, he said.
The Chief Minister said 13 persons, including six college students, died in the accident. District Ministers Palle Raghunatha Reddy and Paritala Sunitha and Transport Minister Siddha Raghava Rao were asked to monitor the relief measures. Seriously injured persons were rushed to Bengaluru while others were shifted to Government hospital at Hindupur.
The RTC drivers were expected to discharge their duties with dedication and in a responsible manner. And, the onus lay on the government to ensure that such incidents did not recur in future, he said.
The Chief Minister was in the city to participate in pre-budget workshop. The conference observed a two-minute silence to pay homage to the deceased.
