GRP busts gang of train thieves, 3 held

Government Railway Police arrested three persons from Allahabad railway station on Wednesday and claimed to have busted a gang of criminals involved in committing thefts in trains. Several looted items were recovered from arrested gang members.

ALLAHABAD: Government Railway Police arrested three persons from Allahabad railway station on Wednesday and claimed to have busted a gang of criminals involved in committing thefts in trains. Several looted items were recovered from arrested gang members.
Acting on a tip-off GRP team arrested three persons as they were planning to board a train near Line Shah Baba on platform number 1 of the railway station.
They were identified as Rahul Kumar Yadav of Handia, Roopesh Jaiswal of Buxar and Roopesh Jaiswal of Karelabagh of Allahabad.
GRP claimed that these persons were involved in recent cases of theft in Patna-Secundrabad Express and Godan Express. Around Rs 8000 in cash, several mobile phones and watches were recovered from them.
The modus operandi of these criminals was that they stole the luggage and other items of passengers and escaped from the train as it slowed down while approaching a train or any other place.
GRP officials further claimed that many other cases of theft in the train would be solved with the arrest of these criminals.
