TXU Offering Customers Block RECs To Allow Customers to Go Green Without Changing Plans

January 07,2015

TXU Energy announced that it is now offering customers the opportunity to purchase RECs separate from their electric supply product, so customers can go green without changing their plan or various rewards. TXU Energy GreenUp Helps Texans Go 100 Percent Green

TXU Energy is one of the largest sellers of renewable energy in Texas and now it’s helping more of its customers go 100 percent green for their home electricity service.

The company’s new TXU Energy GreenUp[SM] option allows existing residential customers to maintain their current TXU Energy plans and benefits – such as Cash Back Loyalty Rewards and price protection – while adding renewable energy offsets for 100 percent of the electricity delivered to their homes. That means that for every kilowatt delivered to their homes, an equal number of kilowatts generated by Texas wind will be put onto the Texas electricity grid. New TXU Energy customers can select almost any residential plan and still get a 100 percent green offset with TXU Energy GreenUp.

“Many of our customers want the best of both worlds – green electricity options and our incredibly popular plans, including Cash Back Loyalty Rewards and Right Time Pricing[SM],” said Sydney Seiger, chief marketing officer for TXU Energy. “With TXU Energy GreenUp, we’re delivering great benefits and the opportunity for customers to do their part for the environment.”

Renewable energy credits ensure that an equal amount of green electricity is put onto the Texas power grid for every kilowatt of electricity consumed in the home or business associated with those credits. Each credit is unique and can only be used once.

Between 2008 and 2012, TXU Energy retired more than 15 million megawatt-hours of renewable energy credits. That is enough electricity to power more than 200,000 average Texas homes a year in each of those five years.

“We know Texans want to do their part and TXU Energy GreenUp provides that opportunity to nearly all of our residential customers,” Seiger said.
