Belgium based Europlasma, a global leader in low pressure plasma technology, is pleased to present at CES 2015 its nanocoating technology for the electronics industry under the Nanofics® brand name. Europlasma's Nanofics® technology is used worldwide by a renowned customer base for the coating of filtration products, functional textiles, medical devices and consumer electronics.
Nanofics® refers to nanoscaled functionalization into the core of complex s haped materials and products. It is Europlasma's patented and patent pending nanocoating technology platform, first applied on industrial scale in 1996.
The Nanofics 120® family of coatings is a highly water repellent (water contact angle of 120 degrees according to ASTM D5964) and highly oil repellent (oil repellency level 8 according to ISO 14419) fluoropolymer type of nanocoatings deposited by low pressure plasma technology.
These liquid repellent nanocoatings have proven to be the ideal technology to splashproof and corrosion protect wearable and portable electronics, used in an active lifestyle. The Nanofics 120® coatings show excellent resistance against water, acid or salt, and can be applied in a uniform way throughout very complex fine scaled structures. The coatings are transparent, flexible and show no influence on the performance of the device. Because these nanocoatings are so thin no masking of specific microdevices or electrical contact points is required, which allows absolute flexibility for integration in the manufacturing process.
Europlasma's Sales and Product Manager Peter Martens comments: "The Nanofics® 120 would typically be used on a headset to reach water ingress protection IPx4 and salt mist corrosion protection for at least 48 hours. We do not work only with each customer individually to reach the best possible solution for their current device; we also work together with the customer to improve both the design of the device and the coating type to further increase performance for future models."
In recent years there has been a steep growth in demand for Nanofics® systems to protect wearable and portable electronics. The systems are typically integrated in the manufacturing lines of electronic devices such as earbuds, headphones, headsets, smartwatches, Bluetooth speakers and smartphones. More than fifty million of such electronic devices have been coated with the Nanofics® technology platform.

On October 28th, 2014, Europlasma announced that Gimv (a listed European investment company with approximately 1.8 billion EUR assets under management), through its technology-focused Smart Industries platform, together with Yukon (the investment company of Europlasma's Managing Director) have acquired all shares of Europlasma, and have subscribed to a multi-million capital increase to support Europlasma's ambitious growth plans.
