MANGALURU: Rakesh Misra, general manager, Southern Railway reviewed the performance of Palakkad division at the divisional office, Palakkad on Tuesday. Misra expressed satisfaction over progress made by the division during first three quarters of the financial year in the earnings in passenger and freight segments. He urged the division to take steps for improvement of coal loading and for optimum utilization of goods handling facilities available at Tirunavaya.

development work of
world class station envisaged at
Mangaluru Junction and Kozhikode and preparation of master plan for the stations covering operational requirement for next 15-20 years. Misra reviewed progress of gauge conversion of Pollachi-Palakkad section. He issued directions to the division to take necessary steps for deploy gate mitras as stipulated by the railway ministry, at the unmanned level crossing gates in Pollachi-Palakkad section.
On his review of rail electrification work between Shoranur and Kozhikode, divisional officials informed that the Commissioner for Railway Safety will inspect the section shortly. Misra stressed importance and urgency in sorting out delay of land acquisition for construction of sub-station at Tirur for electrification work. Misra approved contract for introducing battery-operated car to facilitate movement of differently abled and elderly people in Kozhikode Railway station.
The divisional officials appraised Misra about progress made by the Division in improving passenger amenities such as and installation work of lifts - two each at Mangalore Central and at Palakkad Junction, which is in progress. The tender for clean train station at Shoranur Junction is being finalized. On introduction of this facility, caches of all trains passing through Shoranur Junction would be cleaned on regular basis, from 6am to 10pm.
