After a disappointing first day in which Madhya Pradesh's Yogesh Rawat had figures of 16-4-60-0 against his name, the 22-year-old seamer made amends on the second picking up five wickets to halt Mumbai charge in the Ranji Trophy tie here on Tuesday.

Rawat began the second day all charged up and with an aim to do something special after a pep talk previous night by MP coach Harvinder Singh Sodhi. The pacer's breathtaking spell of 24-6-74-5 was instrumental in cleaning up the lower order of Mumbai.

From a comfortable 375 for four, the hosts were 404 all out in the Group A tie at the Wankhede Stadium.

In their reply, Madhya Pradesh were sitting pretty at 221 for three in 72 overs with Naman Ojha (60) and captain Devendra Bundela (40) at the crease. Jalaj Saxena (85), too, contributed to Mumbai's misery.

Mumbai, on the other hand, failed to put up an inspiring show with the ball after their batsmen impressed the previous day. None of the bowlers made an impression and were seen struggling on the greenish track.

Fast bowler Shardul Thakur started well with the new ball beating the batsman with his outswingers, troubling them with bouncers, but could not come out with a wicket-taking delivery.

Although, they created some half chances, they proved too difficult for the fielders. And the wickets that came Mumbai's way were because of mistakes by the visiting batsman.

Earlier after MP took the new ball, Rawat fired down a good spell to send Mumbai packing in 77 minutes. He picked three wickets in the 91st over.

First it was promising batsman Sarfaraz Khan, who added just one to his overnight score of 20. He nicked one to the first slip while going for a backfoot drive. Then Siddhesh Lad (69) was trapped in front of the wicket and Thakur became the third victim edging one to Harpreet Singh at the second slip.

Rest were a mere formality as Mumbai collapsed for 404.

"It was a good day. I was disappointed when I could not find the rhythm on this green track on Day One. Today I was determined to do something and I did it," said Rawat.
