Another slum gets solar streetlights

Three solar streetlights have been switched on at BNR Nagar in Ward 2 beside VIMS in Arilova .

ARTD, which installed the streetlights covering three crowded areas in the slum, also installed borewells.

Each street lamp costs Rs. 25,000 but was supplied at a concession at Rs. 18,000 by B.Ranganayakulu, founder of Thrive Solar Energy Private Ltd of Hyderabad.

The slum has no toilets, and is infested with snakes. Owing to dumping of garbage at nearby open spaces mosquito problem was severe and there was no bridge across the storm water drain to enter the colony, residents told former Union Energy Secretary E A S Sarma, who participated in the inauguration, said. He told them that the problems would be taken to the notice of GVMC, the District Collector and the Chief Secretary.
