MNS plans fresh stir on new toll booth
MUMBAI: The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) is set to launch a fresh stir in support of its demand to dismantle the Kharghar toll post in Navi Mumbai, it is learnt. MNS workers will continue demonstrations at Kharghar after the government’s decision to re-start the toll station after Tuesday’s stir by the party.
Senior MNS leader Bala Nandgaonkar said his party wanted accountability and transparency in toll collection.
While stating the MNS didn’t believe in violence and destruction of public property, Nandgaonkar said, “We want the state government to come down heavily on toll contractors who are fleecing the public,” he said.
Senior MNS functionary Avinash Abhyankar, who heads the party’s transport union, said his party was not against collection of toll. “However, the Kharghar toll station violates the norms laid down by the state administration on toll collection,” he said.
