Jannat accuses Dhawan of issuing threats
CHANDIGARH: High drama was witnessed just before the start of mayoral elections on Tuesday morning when Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) councillor Jannat Jahan-ul-Haq stood on her seat and started accusing former union minister and senior BJP leader Harmohan Dhawan of threatening her husband and her for casting her vote in favour of BJP's mayoral candidate Heera Negi or face dire consequences.
Jahan was so aggressive that she refused to listen to anyone and kept saying sharp words against Dhawan and BJP.
Alleging that Dhawan called her husband and her on Monday night at least 25 times, she claimed, "He threatened us and I take his challenge. We also live in the city and will see how he harms us. We are openly casting our vote in favour of Congress. He could not get his wife elected in the MC and is this the way to ask for votes? I told about this to MP Kirron Kher also and how Dhawan through the phone of her supporter Naushad Ali threatened me and my husband last night. He doesn't ever deserve to sit in the gallery. We will register criminal case in this regard."
Congress councillors Gurbax Rawat immediately stood up and supported Jannat. Other Congress municipal councilors also criticized the BJP.
In the meantime, city MP Kirron Kher stood up and asked the presiding officer to declared the two votes of BSP councilors invalid as they violated the secrecy by telling they would cast the votes in favour of Congress. The Congress councilors argued that she said her views at a time when polling process had not kicked off.
When asked if they file criminal complaint, Hafiz Anwar-Ul-Haq, husband of Jannat Jahan-ul-Haq, said they were not going to file any police complaint.
Former union minister Harmohan Dhawan refused to comment on the issue.
