Farm officer held for taking bribe

Y. Lavanya, agriculture officer of Manchal mandal in neighbouring Rangareddy district, was arrested by Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials on Monday after she allegedly took Rs.2,000 as bribe from a jobless tribal for issuing fertiliser shop license.

The tainted sum was recovered from the woman officer . The complainant, Devaram Sapavath, an unemployed engineering graduate had applied for fertiliser shop license. “The agriculture officer demanded bribe threatening to return the license to higher-ups if he failed to pay the sum she demanded,” the ACB DSP M. Prabhakar said. The DSP also appealed to people to contact him on his mobile phone no. 9440446140 to pass on information about corrupt practices by State government employees. Details of the informants would be kept confidential, he said.
