Dance by Rajasthani artistes Kulta Khan, Goram Khan and Roshan Khan; Salil Bhat plays saatvik veena and Himanshu Mahant’s tabla, and a fusion of eastern and western classical music featuring Taufiq Qureshi (drums), Purbayan Chatterjee (sitar), Atul Raninga (keyboard) and Deepak Pandit (violin) on Friday, will be among the attractions at Alva’s Virasat in Moodbidri.
The four-day event will see ‘Mahaleela’ on Friday, featuring the popular percussion instrument player Shivamani along with Stephen Devassy (keyboard) and Balabhaskar (violin); a dance performance by 25 artistes from Andhra Pradesh called ‘Evening of dance’ on Thursday; and a musical soiree titled ‘Akhiyon Ke Zarokhon Se’ by 30 visually challenged artistes and a ballet ‘Miracle on wheels’ by physically challenged artists from Delhi on Saturday. There will be folk dances from Punjab and Gujarat on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
On Sunday, the last day the programme, there will be ‘Nada Loka’, featuring a performance by Mysore Manjunath (violin), Shashank (flute), Jayachandra Rao (mridangam), among others. This will be followed by a Bharatanatyam performance titled Nrityapurushasamyoga by 30 artistes. There will be a dance by students of Alva’s on all four days.
The event will begin with Alva’s Virasat award being given to Ustad Amjad Ali Khan. Dharmadhikari of Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala D. Veerendra Heggade will preside over the inauguration. Alva’s Varna Virasat award will be given on Sunday to Thota Vaikuntam of Hyderabad.
