The Badvel police arrested an international red sanders smuggler Guddeti Ramanadha Reddy (35), a former key aide of notorious red sander smuggler Kollam Gangi Reddy, (against whom a red corner notice was issued) and 10 others and seized 49 red sander logs, vehicles and cellphones, worth Rs. 20 lakh, Kadapa Superintendent of Police Navin Gulati said on Monday.

The bank accounts of Ramanadha Reddy, who had amassed several crores of rupees by smuggling red sanders to China, Dubai and other nations, were frozen and proceedings to confiscate his property were being initiated, he told a media conference in Kadapa. He was arrested in March last year by Dhone police, but absconded.

Ramanadha Reddy, a native of Annavaram village in Chapadu mandal in Kadapa district, had settled down at Vinjamuru in Nellore district, and was an accused in 16 cases in five districts.

Beginning his career as a carpenter, he befriended one Nagaraju of Vanipenta in Mydukur mandal, financed him and started off as a pilot to vehicles transporting red sanders, Dr. Gulati said. He supplied red sanders to Sahul Bhai of Chennai and it was transported to Mumbai via Bangalore and Hyderabad. He also supplied red sanders logs to Balu and Ambu of Chennai and Nazeer Ahmed Roshan of Bengaluru

The others arrested were Gopireddy Pavan Kumar Reddy, Derangula Subramanyam (39), Sunkara Easwaraiah (22) and Abbu Bhaskar, Rayapureddy Jayarami Reddy (48), Akkalareddy Narayana Reddy (35), Dadireddy Mastan Reddy (45) and Khan Ahmedullah Khan (36) of Vinayakanagar in Bengaluru. The SP congratulated Badvel CI K. Venkatappa and SIs -- B. Nagamurali, J. Narasimha Reddy and J. Chandrasekhar for the arrest.
