Tyrone manager Mickey Harte admitted he is thrilled to have defender Cathal McCarron back in the inter-county fold for the 2015 season.

The corner-back made his first appearance for the Red Hand since 2013 All-Ireland semi-final defeat to Mayo in the tempestuous McKenna Cup victory over Armagh yesterday that saw four cards issued at the Athletic Grounds.

McCarron ran into personal difficulties over the last 14 months and was not part of the Tyrone squad in 2014. He did play for London, where he was resident, in league matches during the early part of the year.

Harte however is pleased with the progress McCarron has made since returning to the panel.

"Yeah, absolutely great, we've seen him since he came back to join us in training, he's in great form and great shape," he told The Daily Star after the two-point victory.

"He is a very good defender and for not having played football for so long at that level, he adapted very quickly. If he continues progressing that way, he'll be a serious asset to us," he added.

Tyrone and the GPA have appealed for some space for the Dromore man since he returned home in April.
