VADODARA: Dahod local crime branch (rural) arrested a man on Friday night near Rampura village on Dahod-Godhra highway in connection with multiple robberies. The history-sheeter was involved in 14 incidents of robbery at Panchmahal, Anand and Dahod in the last three months.
The accused Rakesh Mavi was released from prison in September. According to police, after his release Mavi met his gang based in Matwa village of Garbada taluka and carried out a string of robberies.
Within a span of three months, Mavi looted several places, including a police officer's house in Anand. Mavi was arrested after LCB police inspector H L Sangada received a tip off that Mavi was to pass from a crossroads near Rampura village located near Dahod-Godhra highway. Following the tip-off, the cops kept watch at the crossroads. Mavi was arrested when he was riding a motorbike. Police said the motorbike that Mavi was riding had also been looted.
According to the police, Mavi and his gang looted five places in Panchmahal, three at Anand and six places in Dahod. The LCB are conducting further investigations to ascertain if any more robberies have been done by Mavi and his gang. Dahod rural police have registered three cases of loot against Mavi. Two incidents of loot were registered against Mavi each at Limdi, Limkheda, Kalok, Rajgadh and Anand police stations. One case each was registered at Garbada, Pavagadh, Morva, and Vidyanagar police stations.
