The deadline for the completion of phase 1 is 2017; it has been decided that the Central Railway will refer to CIDCO’s finalised designs of stations in the first phase and then design those in phase 2
The second phase of the proposed Nerul-Uran railway corridor will be able to meet its deadline of 2018. As per information received from the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO), in a meeting held between the town planning agency and Central Railway in the month of December, it was decided that the latter would first refer to the designs of phase 1 stations and invite tenders accordingly.

CIDCO and CR will jointly develop the 27-km corridor, in which the railway will design the stations of phase 2, including Gavhan, Ranjanpada, Nhava-Sheva, Dronagiri and Uran. The first phase of the project includes four stations that are Sagar Sangam, Targhar, Bamandongri and Kharkopar.
The Seawoods station has already been developed. CIDCO has floated tenders for designing these stations for which six consultants have shown interest. Once these designs are finalised by the end of January, the Central Railway will invite tenders for the design of the second phase accordingly.
S A Bokade, Railway Superintendent Engineer at CIDCO said, “The Railway officials are waiting for our designs. They will study the finalised designs and make a plan accordingly for the second phase. Phase 2 will be operational by the end of 2018.”
There are 10 stations on the proposed railway line Seawoods, Sagar Sangam, Targhar, Bamandongari, Kharkopar, Gavhan, Ranjanpada, Nava-Sheva, Dronagiri and Uran. The deadline for the first phase of the project till Kharkopar is December 2017.
The project was started in the year 1997 and the cost that time was Rs 495 crore. However, delays in the project have resulted in cost escalation up to Rs 1,800 crore.
